MS SONGWRITERS FESTIVAL

The nationally recognized Mississippi Songwriters Festivals is an annual event hosted by the Mississippi Songwriters Alliance in Ocean Springs, Ms. Downtown streets of the Gulf Coast are filled every September with prominent local, regional, and professional Mississippi songwriters of all genres and fans seeking to observe the state’s great talent. The festival stretches from local venues, to late night, rocking-chair “guitar pulls” at the famous Gulf Hills resort. Whether a veteran songwriting enthusiast or newcomer, all are certain to be immersed in Mississippi’s rich songwriting culture at the annual festival.

Local Licks was invited to "takeover" songwriter night at South Main Sounds in Memphis!  Featured songwriters  included: Michaela Compton (Las Vegas/Tupelo), Tony Hooper (Amory MS), Mersaidee Soules (Canada/Nashville/Tupelo), Will Stults (Huntsville AL)

THE EVENT - 7 DAYS FOR THE TROOPS

Local Licks was honored to add music during this week-long event!  48 musicians provided music throughout the week.  The Event held on Friday night (Day 6) of the event included songwriters with "military-specific" original songs. Songwriters from MS, TN, AL & GA drove in to donate their time playing music.

100th RADIO SESSION on z98.5fm 

To celebrate the 100th radio session of Local Licks, the tables were turned.  The host, Michaela Compton, shared her original songs and became the "interviewee".  The host for this session was singer/songwriter, Will Stults (Huntsville AL).  Tony Hooper (Amory MS) joined in on guitar.

The 1st Local Licks Songwriter Competition had a specific theme: Down syndrome.  3rd place: Wes Vorhees  2nd place: Caul Coker & Brian Todd Quinn  1st place: Leah Rose

THE BASEMENT sessions

The Basement Sessions featured songwriters in a round in front of a live audience. The audio was recorded for later broadcast on Local Licks -  Z98.5FM.  Video was recorded for future broadcast on TV99 North Mississippi.

1st southern songwriters showcase

Local Licks (Michaela Compton) and Southern Songwriters Showcase (Brian Harrison) joined forces to present this event featuring 8 songwriters:  Hannah Roye, Karly LeAnn Clayton, Derek Norsworthy, Chad Parker, Mersaidee Soules, Will Stults, Michaela Compton, Brian Harrison.
